One of the Best Banh Zung Places to Try Right Now!

Let’s talk about Banh Zung. Well, for all you khmer folks, you guys are no strangers to this dish. But for the expats, Banh Zung is originally established in Vietnam, however; it is being sold everywhere in Phnom Penh. It’s basically round-shaped rice noodle garnished with fresh Asian vegetables underneath, meat and spring rolls on top with a finishing touch of fish sauce and coconut milk.

 

I believe with the description above, you will somehow get the idea of what Banh Zung looks like. It’s a normal go-to meal. Since, it is normal, there shouldn’t be any doubt why Banh Zung stalls are scattering at every corner of the city. BUT! There is one Banh Zung place that I’m always inclined to.

 

If you are familiar to the blocks around Orussey Market, chances are, you will find it easy to find this small joint. But if you’re the kind who doesn’t really have a sense of direction, then you might need to stick to this description a bit.

 

Say you travel from Phsar Thom Tmei Market towards Tmor Da Restaurants or 101 optics; you will find a passage on your left hand side. As you turn, keep proceeding straight until you almost have a sight of another boulevard, look to your left and you will see small Banh zung stall. I honestly hope this is helpful.

A small Banh Zung joint, but carries a big flavor!

 

I really mean it when I say it’s the best Banh Zung in town. One thing to eye for a good Banh Zung is the quality of the Banh Zung itself. I thought the Banh Zung quality there was exceptionally satisfying. It was served in a long bundle with just the right amount of gloss from the oil. Unlike some other places, their Banh Zung can fall apart, short, and doesn’t look tempting at all. Another thing to mention is the Spring rolls. The Spring rolls carry just the right amount of taro and pork and fried just to the right amount of crisp. The stir-fried meat with onions wasn’t that bad either although I thought it was a bit sweet for my preference. Last but not least, the sauce. A good banh zung is one that has the best seasoning. The right fish sauce for Banh Zung is really hard to achieve because there are a few things that can go wrong while adjusting the taste of it. It could be too sweet, too sour, too salty, or too empowering by the Garlic. The Fish sauce at this recommended place was done to the finest because as I poured in more, I was only getting more flavor omit the saltiness, which I thought was pretty impressive. I was completely sold and I always find myself going back there very often.

A little back-story on why I think it’s simply the best place to eat Banh Zung. One time I was there to take away Banh Zung. The seller refused to sell the banh zung for me because the Spring Rolls weren’t cooked by the time. She said, with Banh Zung, we’re supposed to eat everything all together at once for the best taste result. So I just sat there and waited as the Spring Rolls was frying. Such a small business, but they honestly put their entire hearts into it. Drop by there sometimes whenever you feel like having a good bowl of Banh Zung.
