Since this was our first time at Hok Noodle Bar + Grill, we were committed to trying as many different dishes as we can and our first was Fried Chicken Buns with Sriracha aioli. The crispiness of deep-fried chicken cutlet wrapped in fluffy, white buns topped with hot and spicy Sriracha does an excellent job in bringing in together the two very different textures of the chicken and buns. Dip in the sauce some more if you want it a little hotter and spicier!

Next was Spiced Coconut Curry Egg Noodle that you might already be able to tell from the vivid red soup that it is going to be a little hot and steamy. Served with freshly, in-house made egg noodles, the creamy and aromatic coconut curry is going to leave you hooked.

Moving on from soup, we went with Wok Seared Kuy Teow with shrimps and Stir-Fried Yellow Noodle with braised pork shoulder that were equally good in their own ways and we would recommend this to anyone who might not be able to handle the spices and heat of the first curry dish. Kuy Teow or Noodle? It all depends on one’s personal preference, however we have to say the Wok Seared Kuy Teow is a breath of fresh air from the usually-soggy and greasy fried Kuy Teow and especially, with the fried garlic bits, fried Kuy Teow never smells and tastes better.

Did you know that Hok Noodle Bar + Grill also serves Vegetarian options? We opted to try a few of the plant-based dishes and we were pleasantly surprised by how good the dishes were and it almost made us wonder why we eat meat all this time if meatless dishes taste this good!

Nom Krouk: Traditional Coconut Rice Dumplings is just like any of our regular Nom Krouk that is cooked in one of those iron or clay moles but here’s where the twist comes into play: served with carrot ketchup, avocado puree & watercress, this beautifully plate of the good, old Nom Krouk tastes foreign but nostalgic all at once. The sweet taste of the carrot ketchup mixed with the creamy avocado puree on the crispy outside and fluffy-warm inside of the Nom Krouk was definitely a taste to remember and our favorite of the day.

Last but not least, the Wok Tossed Green Vegetables & Cashew Nuts with all the greens such as Bok Choy, Brocolli, Snow Peas, Zucchini looks and sounds like a very simple dish and it is. However, the addition of the cashew nuts brings an unusual but pleasant element to the dish and the dish itself is light enough to eat on its own or paired with some steamed rice.

Besides all amazing foods, Hok Noodle Bar + Grill also serves amazing cocktails and you shouldn’t let this beautiful, high-ceiling bar unphotographed so snap a few shots and enjoy a cocktail or two too while you’re there!
