On November 17, 2022, the World Rice Conference gathered at Phuket, Thailand for the World’s Best Rice Competition. Cambodia submitted the Phkar Romdoul rice and it won! The rice was announced as the “World’s Best Rice”. 

 

This is the fifth time that Cambodia has placed first in this competition. Prior victories were for 3 consecutive years - 2012, 2013, and 2014 - and the fourth time in 2018. 

 

During the competition, Cambodia’s rice was put through a series of evaluations including appearance, texture, fragrance, taste, etc. The Phkar Romdoul rice with its long grains and fragrant scent won amongst the rice that were submitted. This result is going to help raise the agriculture industry and the rice industry in Cambodia to reach a greater standing.
