Ever wonder why this one restaurant across from the Sorya Shopping mall is packed even when it’s almost midnight? Soup 40 is a local soup restaurant that has been serving hot steamy soup and BBQ sets for more than 30 years already! 

This simple Khmer-style restaurant has both outdoor and indoor seating. Just park your motorcycles on the front!

They have these 3 options to choose from: BBQ set, Soup set, and the 2-in-1 BBQ and soup set. As you can see in the photo, we ordered the 2-in-1 one set, with a small soup pot in the middle surrounded by a grill for your BBQ!

With this set, you’ll get a plate of Beef slices, Shrimps and Yolks, a plate of fresh veggies and a bowl of egg white. Sounds weird, right? But apparently you are supposed to pour the egg white in the soup to thicken it up with the extra flavor! 

They bring a whole tray with various choices like different cuts of beef and pork, squid, and shrimp, etc. For soup options, you will get to choose meatballs, beef tripes, brains, noodles, rice noodles, and plenties of vegetables commonly eaten in soup. 

The soup set costs 52000 riel while the BBQ set is only 39000 riel. While the soup is clear, it is a bit bland to our liking. We added some dipping sauce into the soup and it definitely helped. The BBQ is alright but you might have to order extra if you come with friends. If you want to eat a lot but have a budget, don’t forget to bring your friends and families to share the joy and the bill!

Soup 40 is located on St 63, No 40, near Sorya Mall, and opens from 2:30 pm to 10:30 pm!
