Are you craving for some authentic Thai food and it seems like your Thai Food Trip isn’t going to make it out of the group chat? FoodBuzz got your back! We tried some signature dishes at this Thai restaurant located in BKK and here’s our review.
Kai Zaab is a trending hotspot for Thai food in Cambodia right now as customers are flocking to this restaurant for their proclaimed authentic Thai way of cooking.
Much like most restaurants in Thailand, Kai Zaab has a minimal yet cozy decor that optimizes most of their space for seating to accompany the number of hungry customers during lunch rush. Once seated, we browsed through their detailed menu before choosing several of their signatures.
Starting with our personal favorites, we got two choices of Tom Yum, the iconic Seafood Tom Yum Soup and the interesting Chicken Ovary Tom Yum Soup. These dishes are clearly the most popular ones because the aroma of the soup hits our nose and makes us salivate as soon as we get to the door! We also noticed that the Tom Yum is presented in most of the tables so this seems like the must-order dishes. Served in claypots, the hot steamy soup is the perfect combo with white rice. Intiatal impression is that they are not stingy with their meat. Both of the Tom Yum dishes are full of flavor, they’re sour and sweet yet so creamy with a kick of spiciness from the chili. The ingredients were prepared with the utmost care and you can tell that the meat, veggies as well as the dried chili were of a great quality which upped the dishes onto another level and reminded us so much of the Tom Yum we had in Thailand!
Their own in-house recipe is what makes the dishes even more special because it ensures that you’ll get the same signature sweet, savory and spicy Tom Yum everytime!
You don’t have to guess our third dish because we indeed ordered their signature Salted Egg Somtam or Salted Egg Papaya Salad. You can never go wrong with papaya salad! The seasoning was just the perfect amount of sour and savory but it’s not as salty as the papaya salad that we’re used to because instead of fermented crab, they used salted egg which upped the saltiness without it being overpowering!
Next, we tried the favorite among Kai Zaab’s regulars which is their Signature Grilled Chicken Thigh. This dish is particularly popular during lunch rush. What makes this dish so special? It might be because this was cooked with Thai’s Gai Yong cooking technique which takes more than 20 hours of prepping and marinating! That’s why the grilled chicken is so juicy and tender at the same time!
Last but not least, we ordered the eye-catching Shrimp Cake which is a crispy deep fried shrimp filling dish. When you first bite it, you get the crispy deep fried exterior before hitting the soft yet tender shrimp filling on the inside. Perfectly seasoned but when dipped with the sweet honey that it came with? Shockingly good!
Trust us when we said that it’s fine to be sad over the canceled Thai Food Trip’s plan but it’s better to have Kai Zaab’s authentic Thai food over moping in the group chat!
